Score One For The Search Engines
I've never thought gloating was a particularly good us of anybody's time, but I thought I'd note quickly that it looks like my one-page crusade against "door spam" is having an impact. I've just received a polite message from one of the local businesses who have left unsolicited advertising materials on my doorstep repeatedly during 2007; they've asked for my address so they can leave me out of future distributions. I've responded in kind—with luck, that'll be the end of it.
Out of curiosity, I entered the names of the principals of this business into some common Internet search engines, just to see whether my door spam page was turning up. It did. Here are the results as of this evening, presented in no particular order:
Search Engine | Door Spam Page | Total Results |
---|---|---|
3 | 10 | |
Yahoo | 1 | 1 |
MSN Search | 1 | 1 |
Windows Live Search | 1 | 1 |
Dogpile | 1 | 7 |
Ask.com | 0 | 0 |
AOL | 3 | 5 |
Altavista | 1 | 1 |
AllTheWeb | 1 | 1 |
Snap | 0 | 20 |
Wisenut | 0 | 0 |
