GLENN ALLEN DUNCAN, JR.

Glenn Allen Duncan, Jr. passed away in Reno April 1, 2004. He was 71 years old. Born in Ely, Nevada, Glenn attended the University of Oregon and the University of Nevada, and served for over three decades in northern Nevada schools, teaching English and social sciences in Reno and working in school district administration. Glenn loved the outdoors and couldn't resist tinkering with cars, tools, and gadgets. He volunteered repeatedly as a scoutmaster, and frequently headed off "into the brush" with the family dog and a camera, as much to drive and explore as to be a part of the country he revered. Glenn read widely and avidly (once going through every Western in the county library) and enjoyed tuning into the world via shortwave radio—even building an elaborate makeshift antenna atop the house. He was also a dedicated correspondent, staying in touch with friends and family via handwritten letters combining willful wit and details of daily life.

Glenn is survived by Jo-Ann, his wife of 44 years; children Pauline, Margaret, and Geoffrey; grandchildren Nicole, Jamie, Charles, and Michael; and great-grandson Derin. He was preceded in death by his parents Glenn Sr. and Constance, his stepfather Steven Alexander, and his eldest son Glenn Allen Duncan III. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
